Purdue scored the first two baskets and led after seven minutes, but Michigan took the lead on a pair of LJ Cason free throws with 12:50 remaining in the first half and never trailed. Cason's foul shots ignited a 16-0 run that quieted the Purdue crowd. Coach Dusty May praised the team's responses to runs, and 7-foot-3 Aday Mara altered multiple plays and provided early momentum inside.
