Miami Heat star reveals truth about reason for recent injury
""It finally got to a point where I had to sit down," Adebayo told reporters after Miami's 142-116 win, even though he wasn't active. "Sit and rest. That's really what it was. It was one of those nagging injuries. So I finally had to sit down. "It wasn't always the back. It just crept up to the back. ... It's the NBA, guys always try to play through (injuries), and when you can't, you sit down and rest.""
""Erik Spoelstra in the first vid says that Tyler Herro is "definitely making progress," but no timetable, same with Bam Adebayo. Second vid, Spo said that Bam "really needed this time" for rest. "He was dealing with some deals because of overcompensation..." #HeatNation pic.twitter.com/Q4oZbgQveS- Zachary Weinberger (@ZachWeinberger) December 27, 2025"
"Erik Spoelstra told reporters pre-game that Adebayo was dealing with "overcompensation," stating that he "really needed" the extra rest."
Bam Adebayo has missed multiple recent games because of nagging lower-back soreness that crept up from compensating for another injury. He elected to sit and rest after persistent discomfort rather than playing through the pain. Head coach Erik Spoelstra described the issue as overcompensation and said Adebayo really needed the extra rest. Adebayo missed six games in November with a foot/toe injury and posted strong numbers upon return, averaging 19.7 points and 10.0 rebounds in his first nine games back. The Heat need Adebayo available for an upcoming five-game stretch against tough opponents.
