In a historic matchup, the Phoenix Mercury defeated the New York Liberty 106-91, setting a new WNBA record for 3-pointers made in consecutive games with 35. Led by Satou Sabally’s 25 points, the Mercury's impressive performance also included Alyssa Thomas matching the record for assists. The team demonstrated excellent shooting, especially from the 3-point line, with 18 made shots out of 39 attempts. Meanwhile, the Liberty struggled, losing their fourth game in five matches, despite Breanna Stewart contributing 17 points.
“I think you're seeing the game of basketball evolve,” Phoenix coach Nate Tibbetts said. “It doesn't matter what league, people are trying to play with more space, more playmaking, more skill, more shooting.”
The Mercury finished 18 of 39 from beyond the arc one game after hitting 17 3s in a win over Chicago. The 35 3s over consecutive games is a WNBA record.
Alyssa Thomas, who had 17 points, matched the Phoenix record of 15 assists for the second time and finished a rebound short of her 12th regular-season triple-double.
Breanna Stewart scored 17 points for the Liberty, who have lost four of five games, starting with an 89-81 home loss to the Mercury.
