A statue of Pat Riley was unveiled outside Crypto.com Arena on Sunday. The ceremony occurred three hours before the Lakers' 6:30 p.m. EST tip against the Boston Celtics. Riley spent nearly two decades in Los Angeles as a player and coach and has spent three decades with the Miami Heat. Nicknamed the Godfather, Riley won six titles with the Lakers, five of them as coach, including three between 1984 and 1988. As Lakers head coach he compiled a 533-194 (.733) record and a 102-47 postseason mark, with multiple 50-plus and 60-win seasons and Coach of the Year honors. Riley began his professional career with the San Diego Rockets and now joins a group of Lakers legends honored with statues in Star Plaza.
