Victor Wembanyama, 21, attended a private big-man camp on a 400-acre ranch in Katy, Texas, where he backed down new Spurs assistant Rashard Lewis near the basket. Hakeem Olajuwon, a Hall of Famer with two championships, 12 All-Star appearances and an MVP award, met Wembanyama courtside at the NCAA championship and offered to work out with him. Six months earlier Wembanyama had been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder, a career- and life-threatening condition that prompted a summer of unconventional training and international soccer trips in Costa Rica and Tokyo.
