"Just a crazy ending to a phenomenal game,"
"He was the best player on the floor tonight. Probably, I mean, that's the best player that's played against us all season. It's just fun competing against the best, and obviously being close with him, that kind of adds to the competitiveness. So it was really fun."
"It's incredible,"
Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 pick, scored 49 points, the most ever by an NBA teenager, breaking the Mavericks rookie record he shared with Mark Aguirre. Mark Aguirre's No. 24 was retired at halftime. Kon Knueppel, the No. 4 pick and Duke roommate, scored 34 points, forced a Flagg turnover with 7.6 seconds remaining, and made the game-winning free throws after drawing a foul in transition. Flagg's potential game-tying jumper bounced off the back of the rim at the buzzer. The Hornets won 123-121 for their fifth straight victory, and the rookies combined for 83 points, the most by a rookie pair since 1971.
