"He's got to keep an index of who got shots, what was the last shot, and that'll come with reps,"
"But I think [Flagg] has done an incredible job of handling the situation of running the team. And the other thing that I think that is going unnoticed is that his teammates enjoy him running the team."
Cooper Flagg, an 18-year-old rookie, shifted from forward to starting point guard for the final two preseason games and averaged 12.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in those starts. Jason Kidd praised Flagg's handling of the team and noted that teammates enjoy him running the offense, but Kidd did not commit to opening the season with Flagg as the starter. The Mavericks used a supersized lineup alongside Klay Thompson, P.J. Washington, Anthony Davis and Dereck Lively II, which produced spacing issues and poor perimeter shooting, as the starters went 3-of-15 from three in the game mentioned. D'Angelo Russell started the first two preseason games at point guard, and Kidd emphasized that Flagg needs more reps to refine shot tracking and decision making.
