Izzo 'ticked' at ex-MSU star over bizarre ejection
"You know I love Paul Davis. He's one of my favorite guys. He's always calling and doing things. But what he said -- he should never say anywhere in the world. That ticked me off. Just because it's 25, 20 years later, I'm going to have to call him tomorrow and tell him what I thought of it. And you know what he'll say? 'I screwed up, Coach. Sorry.'"
"What the f--- are you doing? What are you doing?"
"wasn't something racial, it wasn't something sexual,"
"it was just the wrong thing to say, and I'll leave it at that."
Michigan State led USC by 21 points with just over six minutes remaining when former Spartan Paul Davis exchanged words with referee Jeffrey Anderson and was ejected from the stands. Coach Tom Izzo reacted angrily on the court, yelling at Davis and later saying Davis deserved the ejection for an inappropriate comment. Izzo called Davis one of his favorite players, said the remark was not racial or sexual but was wrong, and predicted Davis would apologize. The incident interrupted Izzo's 750th career victory, an 80-51 win, and recalled Davis's contributions during his 2002-2006 Michigan State career.
