The LA Clippers abruptly parted ways with veteran point guard Chris Paul following a late-night, three-hour conversation between Paul and team president Lawrence Frank at the team hotel in Atlanta. Kawhi Leonard and James Harden were surprised and shocked when they learned of Paul's departure Wednesday morning. Harden said he felt confused and surprised, emphasized broader issues beyond Paul, and said he must focus on what he can control after the team beat the Hawks 115-92 to end a five-game losing streak. Paul reportedly had not been on speaking terms with coach Ty Lue for several weeks, and the organization viewed Paul's vocal accountability and leadership style as increasingly disruptive.
