Dybantsa, Wright fuel huge BYU rally vs. Clemson
"The look in their eye got different,"
"I thought we were blank and a little lifeless in the first half. I challenged the guys to come out with more of a competitive spirit."
"They weren't doubling," Dybantsa said. "I have trust in my one-on-one ability, and they decided not to double the second half. So I kind of just picked my spots smarter, not trying to fade as much."
BYU trailed Clemson by 21 at halftime after a 21-0 run and mounted the largest second-half comeback in program history to win 67-64. Robert Wright III hit a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden. Freshman AJ Dybantsa finished with 28 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists on 9-for-17 shooting, including 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in the second half. Dybantsa scored or assisted on 34 of BYU’s 45 second-half points. Coach Kevin Young said the team looked blank and lifeless at halftime and challenged them to play with more competitive spirit. Dybantsa said opponents stopped doubling him, and he trusted his one-on-one ability while picking smarter spots.
