"It's been an impressive run this year. It's really refreshing to see," he said. "They're basically on the brink of a historic season with that record."
"We're kind of following it day by day to see where they're going," Garnett said. "They're making it as difficult as they can for (the NCAA selection committee) with the stretch they've been on."
Marlon Garnett played 14 seasons internationally, spent nine years as an NBA assistant coach, and currently helps coach in Puerto Rico's Baloncesto Superior Nacional. Garnett was a junior at Santa Clara alongside Steve Nash and was the West Coast Conference Player of the Year in 1997. Santa Clara is 22-5, its best start since 1969-70, leading the WCC at 13-1 with a nine-game win streak and a 13-0 home record. The Broncos will host 12th-ranked Gonzaga in a high-profile ESPN matchup. Former teammates follow the team closely, led in scoring by 40% 3-point shooter Christian Hammond. ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi projects three WCC teams in the NCAA field and notes Santa Clara's No. 41 NET ranking and longest win streak in 31 years.
