"Transparency,"
"Just trying to get everyone on the same page, and really just trying to get us to play harder consistently, and I think we did a better job at it today."
"I think in the fourth they made shots, we didn't, that's the reality. And a lot of transition stuff we could've avoided, but I think we played a lot better. We looked like a team today, I think."
Brooklyn opened the season with a seventh straight loss, and coach Jordi Fernández met with players individually and as a team to address sustaining effort. Nic Claxton called for transparency and getting everyone on the same page to play harder consistently, and players showed improved energy and defensive connection against Minnesota despite a 16-point loss. The offense stalled in the fourth quarter, but Noah Clowney started in place of Michael Porter Jr., dove for loose balls, produced two early steals and finished with 15 points, six rebounds and four 3-pointers. Fernández's emphasis on effort resonated with Clowney and Claxton.
