Vending machines stocked with free naloxone, drug-test strips slated for Staten Island
Briefly

Vending machines providing vital harm-reduction supplies, including naloxone and testing strips for fentanyl and xylazine, are being established in Staten Island. These kiosks will also include hygiene and safe-sex products, along with information on treatment services for addiction. The initiative, announced by the Staten Island Partnership for Community Wellness, is part of a broader effort to address the opioid crisis impacting the borough. With funding from the Opioid Settlement initiative, the launch is expected in September, enhancing the local public health response.
"The aim is to prevent overdoses, reduce the transmission of diseases, and ultimately save lives," Mical said about the kiosks.
"Staten Island is the center of the opioid crisis," Mical said. "Fentanyl and xylazine are prevalent in the drug supply here, creating urgent needs for harm reduction measures."
