Spur, founded by Yale graduates Sneha Sivakumar and Anushka Nijhawan, has developed AI agents for website quality assurance. Recently, the startup raised $4.5 million in seed funding led by First Round Capital, with notable participation from several angel investors. Key to its success is the use of natural language for testing website functionalities, allowing users to conduct tests easily and efficiently. Participating in the Y Combinator Summer 2024 batch, Spur aims to redefine software testing by being the first to create an entirely autonomous software tester, a technology they initially developed in college.
"Generally at Yale, not every student there is trying to become a startup founder or entrepreneur, so we saw that fire in each other and connected over that."
"The agent can then test these functions and help with debugging if necessary."
"AI agents are poised to be all the rage in 2025, but Sivakumar says that Spur stands out because she and Nijhawan were the first to build a fully autonomous software tester back in 2023."
"A lot of the other agents weren't advanced enough."
