Far Rockaway native Sean Aiken is set to open Crown Square Pizza, a permanent pizzeria specializing in Detroit-style pizza, at 99-02 Rockaway Beach Boulevard this summer. After successfully running the Neapolitan pizza pop-up Seany Pizza, Aiken wants to introduce something new to the neighborhood. The Detroit-style pizza features thick, cheesy, rectangular slices with crispy edges, which may require some education for locals accustomed to NY-style pizza. Aiken's passion for pizza, sparked by a cookbook purchase on a Chicago trip, drives his commitment to unique culinary experiences in the Rockaways.

It's a slept-on pizza. It's a type that consists of thick cheesy, saucy rectangular slabs bordered by the cheese frico, which looks like a crown.
If we put passion into it, there's enough people that it will attract even in the off-season.
My goal is not to do what feels easy, but I just want to do something that feels just a little bit out there.
