The Battery Conservancy has sought to revitalize Battery Park's southern side through the SeaGlass Carousel, a colorful attraction inspired by the lore of New Amsterdam and designed by the George Tsypin Opera Factory. President Warrie Price pointed out that the carousel, which features iridescent fish illuminated by color-changing LED lights to mimic ocean bioluminescence, is meant to invite visitors into the park while celebrating its historical connections. This June marks the 10-year anniversary of the carousel, highlighting its success in drawing crowds and enriching the community's experience.
The Seaglass Carousel has been a dream of ours since it was first talked about back in 2005 as a sense of light. I was sitting in this area talking about how to draw people into the park. And they said, 'We need a light source.' And one of the landscape artists says, 'Warrie, what about a carousel?'
