New York City's Health + Hospitals system is implementing the "Hotspotting" addiction treatment program at Lincoln Hospital after its success in Staten Island. Funded by a $660,000 grant, the program aims to assist around 150 high-risk patients for opioid use disorder. Patients will have ongoing support for up to a year post-discharge, involving a dedicated care team and community resources. Prior results from the Hotspotting initiative indicated significant reductions in overdose fatalities and emergency visits, demonstrating its effectiveness in addressing the opioid crisis in urban settings.
The Hotspotting program will give our patients at Lincoln Hospital up to a year of follow-up care after they leave the hospital for opioid treatment.
A study of the Hotspotting program found there were only two fatal overdoses among 612 participants, compared to 14 deaths for 1,089 addicts not engaged.
