Exclusive | NYC public hospital system adopts revolutionary 'hotspotting' addiction treatment program for the South Bronx
Briefly

New York City's public hospital system is launching a new addiction treatment initiative called 'Hotspotting' at Lincoln Hospital, funded by a $660,000 grant from the Robin Hood Foundation. This program, proven effective in reducing overdose deaths in Staten Island, pairs emergency patients with a dedicated care team offering extensive follow-up support for up to a year. A study showed significant reductions in overdose deaths and emergency visits for participants. The initiative aims to aid up to 150 patients at high risk of relapse, reflecting the urgent need for innovative addiction care in the city.
"The increasing potency of opioids in New York City requires new and innovative support for our care for patients with opioid use disorder," Health + Hospitals president and CEO Mitchell Katz said.
"The Hotspotting program will give our patients at Lincoln Hospital up to a year of follow-up care after they leave the hospital for opioid treatment. We are deeply grateful to Robin Hood and the Staten Island Performing Provider System for their support in launching this program."
