NYC extends deadline for in-debt property owners to correct issues before lien sale
Briefly

New York City has delayed a lien sale to give property owners more time to address outstanding debts. Initially scheduled for Tuesday, the sale will now occur on June 3, with corrections due by June 2. Finance Commissioner Preston Niblack emphasized the city’s efforts to connect homeowners with payment options to prevent foreclosure. Various support measures are available, including payment plans and exemption applications, and outreach includes visits to nearly 6,000 homes, with special attention given to older and disabled residents.
This extension gives New Yorkers more time to take action and get help, said Finance Commissioner Preston Niblack. We're doing everything we can to connect property owners with payment options.
New York City can put liens on people's property for things like failure to pay property taxes, water and sewer charges, or other property-related costs owed to the city.
