Independent art fair adjusts as market slows
Briefly

As the art market experiences a slowdown, galleries participating in the Independent fair are adjusting strategies to connect with collectors more effectively. To bolster sales, some galleries have resorted to price reductions or increased engagement before the preview day. This year's fair features 85 exhibitors, showcasing 26 debut solo artists in New York. Despite the market challenges, exhibitors reported strong sales, highlighting collectors' continued interest in purchasing art. Independent co-founder Elizabeth Dee emphasizes the fair's commitment to the curatorial strengths of New York and recognizes a significant uptick in VIP registrations this year.
Several hours into the preview, the Los Angeles gallery Sea View had sold about 75% of the works on its stand, a solo presentation of New York artist Jane Corrigan.
Ricco Maresca Gallery, also from New York, sold out its collection of vintage American board games to a single collector for a six-figure sum.
