Sanford Solny, a disbarred attorney, was convicted of stealing deeds from 15 minority homeowners in Brooklyn. The fraudulent real estate scheme, targeting homeowners in foreclosure, led to significant emotional distress for victims like Clotilde Sawadogo, who lost their homes. She described feeling like a stranger in her own home after being deceived into signing over her deeds to Solny. With a potential sentence of up to 7 years, the conviction provides a glimmer of hope for victims as the court plans to nullify the fraudulent deeds, allowing homeowners a chance to reclaim their properties.
"He stole our lives," said Clotilde "Wendy" Sawadogo, deed theft victim. "We were no longer happy in our house. We were feeling like strangers in our own homes."
"While we believe that the evidence supported an acquittal on all charges, we were grateful for the acquittals on the majority of the charges," said James Kousouros.
