PopWheels, a Brooklyn-based company, has launched its first battery-swapping location in Lower Manhattan in response to rising lithium-ion battery fire incidents in NYC. For $75 a month, delivery workers can swap empty batteries for fully charged ones at convenient locations, significantly reducing the risks associated with battery ownership and transport. In partnership with Uber, PopWheels is offering the first 50 workers six months of free service. The company's efficient infrastructure aims to serve 3,000 workers by year-end.
