Congressmen Jerry Nadler and Dan Goldman were denied entry to an ICE facility in NYC, contrary to rules permitting unannounced visits from lawmakers. This incident follows the detention of mayoral candidate Brad Lander in the same facility, where he was accused of obstructing federal officers while supporting immigrants. Nadler criticized ICE for lack of transparency and described inhumane conditions for migrants at the facility. Both congressmen pledged to continue their efforts to inspect detention centers and question what is being concealed from them and the public.
Congress has a duty to conduct oversight and the American people deserve transparency. ICE doesn't get to lie about the nature of this facility.
We will not stop until we get to go in and observe what is going on in these detention centers. What are they hiding about this facility?
