Trump's border czar says he won't launch immigration blitz in NY, according to Gov. Hochul
"I can once again reassure all New Yorkers, that request will never occur. I reiterated that to [Homan] just as a reminder that that is the state of affairs as a directive from the president, that they are not going to have a surge anywhere near what we've seen in other states here in the state of New York."
"The meeting came a day after Trump abruptly replaced Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who had come under significant criticism for the federal government's controversial immigration crackdown in the state of Minnesota - a surge that Homan was tasked with putting an end to last month."
New York Governor Kathy Hochul met with Trump's border czar Tom Homan for nearly an hour at the state Capitol on Friday. Hochul stated she reminded Homan that President Trump previously committed to not launching an immigration enforcement surge in New York without her request. She emphasized this agreement remains in effect and reassured New Yorkers that no similar enforcement blitz seen in other states would occur in New York. Hochul also urged Homan against establishing additional large-scale immigration detention centers in the state. Homan's visit included separate meetings with Republican lawmakers and Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, who discussed law and order concerns.
