President Trump is taking charge of the reconstruction of Penn Station, sidelining the MTA, as federal officials announce Amtrak will now lead the project. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy emphasized the need for a responsible approach to spending, citing the MTA's inefficiencies. The new plan aims to combine ongoing reconstruction efforts and expand the station, ensuring a transit hub that reflects American greatness. New York Governor Kathy Hochul welcomed the federal involvement, indicating that this shift in leadership was a successful outcome of her discussions with Trump.
There is no reason to delegate leadership of this important project.
By putting taxpayers first, we're ensuring every dollar is spent wisely to create a transit hub all Americans can take pride in.
The necessary planning for reconstruction and expansion of Penn Station will be conducted under a single grant, led by Amtrak.
Clearly that effort has been successful, and I want to thank the president and Secretary.
