In fall 2024, the Oakland City Council passed significant Public Safety Resolutions that authorized the purchase of 37 new police cars due to the aging and unreliable condition of existing vehicles. These old vehicles pose a risk to public safety by potentially hindering emergency response. During the investigation into the acquisition process, it was revealed that there are also pending orders for much-needed fire trucks that had already been prepaid, allowing for further enhancements to the city’s emergency response capabilities without incurring additional expenses.
