A Parks Department employee reported the device, prompting evacuation of Carl Schurz Park. The bomb squad determined the package was not hazardous but continued testing. This investigation follows a Saturday attack outside Mamdani's home where two men allegedly threw improvised devices at anti-Islam protesters. Emir Balat, 18, and Ibrahim Kayumi, 19, both from Pennsylvania, were charged with five terrorism-related crimes including attempted provision of material support to ISIS, use of weapons of mass destruction, and explosive-related offenses. Both men face potential life sentences.
