SF's First Recall Election of a Sitting Supervisor Gets a Date
Briefly

SF Supervisor Joel Engardio will face a historic recall election on September 16, 2025, after the SF Department of Elections certified 10,523 valid signatures for the petition. This election is significant as it marks the first recall of a sitting supervisor in San Francisco's history, largely driven by community frustration over Engardio's support for closing the Great Highway to car traffic. Although a new park has emerged in its place, this decision has proven unpopular in District 4, which is expected to mobilize 'no' voters during the special election.
"The petition, submitted on May 22, 2025, was determined to contain 10,523 valid signatures, above the required threshold of 9,911 signatures," the department said.
"We said we were confident when we turned this in," said Otto Pippenger, a field organizer with the recall campaign, in a statement per Mission Local.
