NYPD reviewing its $734K contract for horse vet with decades-long history of violations
Briefly

The NYPD is reassessing its $734,000 contract with veterinarian Camilo Bravo Sierra, following revelations of his multiple violations of racehorse care regulations. Sierra, who has been associated with the NYPD since October 2022, was fined and suspended several times while working at Aqueduct Race Track. Although the NYPD states there have been no issues with the care provided, officials are taking allegations seriously. Sierra has labeled his actions as minor and maintains that his license remains intact despite previous infractions.
Sierra was awarded the massive NYPD contract last October to treat the city's fleet of roughly 50 horses for five years after the agency's longtime vet died in 2023.
A rep for the DOH declined to comment on 'personnel issues,' but confirmed the existence of a contract with Sierra until late 2026.
