In response to the escalating antisemitism in New York City, Mayor Eric Adams has announced the creation of an Office to Combat Antisemitism. This initiative will form an inter-agency taskforce, oversee legal actions, and advise the mayor on protective measures. Rabbi Moshe Davis will lead the office, which aims to reinforce New Yorkers' safety against antisemitic incidents. As Adams campaigns for reelection, the issue is central in both his and his opponent's political strategies, leading to criticisms of potential exploitation by liberal Jewish groups.
Combating antisemitism requires a sledgehammer approach: coordinated, unapologetic, and immediate,â Moshe Davis, a rabbi who is Adams' Jewish liaison for community affairs, stated in the press release.
Antisemitism is an attack not only on Jewish New Yorkers, but on the very idea of New York City as a place where people from all backgrounds can live together,â Adams said in a statement about the new office.
The new mayoral office will immediately establish an inter-agency taskforce dedicated to fighting antisemitism in all its forms,â according to the press release.
Both candidates have been accused by liberal Jewish groups of exploiting antisemitism for political gain.
