Now Do Cars: NYPD Gets Serious About Illegal Parking (But Not THAT Illegal Parking) - Streetsblog New York City
Briefly

The NYPD has intensified efforts to address illegal parking, seizing 210 vehicles over a recent weekend—though all were mopeds and e-bikes. Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera emphasized the need for accountability among vehicle operators. However, his comments overlooked the significant issue of illegally parked cars, some of which were parked near the precinct itself. Complaints from the community initiated this crackdown, as the department faces scrutiny over the lack of clarity regarding complaints and their types. Meanwhile, the volume of complaints remains high, but specifics on vehicle types are unclear.
"We just want to bring accountability back. If you're going to operate these vehicles you have to operate them within the vehicle traffic laws in New York City," said Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera.
Rivera said nothing about the mopeds' four-wheeled counterparts, the car, many of which are illegally parked on sidewalks all over the city every day.
The moped parking crackdown was prompted from an influx of complaints, Rivera said. "We've received a lot of community complaints from 311 and other sources about the scourge of illegal mopeds and mopeds that are legally registered."
When informed about cars illegally parked nearby, Rivera offered a very classic response. "If we're aware of it, we'll tow it," the chief responded.
