Rep. Jerry Nadler reported that a Department of Homeland Security agent handcuffed a staff member at his congressional office due to an alleged security incident involving protesters. DHS stated that officers were confirming reports of protesters and encountered individuals who confronted them. Nadler condemned the actions, indicating that forceful entry into his office signifies a troubling disregard for legal boundaries, and called for an end to intimidation tactics by the Trump administration. He asserted no arrests were made, and the situation was resolved peacefully.
In a statement released Saturday, Nadler said the DHS agents "forcefully" entered his office and handcuffed a member of his staff. "The decision to enter a Congressional office and detain a staff member demonstrates a deeply troubling disregard for proper legal boundaries..."
According to a DHS spokesperson, Federal Protective Service officers were responding to reports that protesters were inside Nadler's district office in Manhattan. Officers identified themselves and explained their intent to conduct a security check..."
