New poll shows Zohran Mamdani beating Andrew Cuomo in NYC Democratic mayoral primary
Briefly

As New York City's Democratic primary election approaches, polls show a tight contest between Zohran Mamdani and Andrew Cuomo. A recent Emerson College poll indicates Mamdani's support has surged to 32%, making him a strong contender against Cuomo, who leads with 35%. However, under ranked-choice voting simulation, Mamdani is projected to overtake Cuomo in subsequent rounds, gaining 18 points compared to Cuomo's 12. The election promises to be highly competitive, with implications for the city’s direction depending on the outcome.
"Over five months, Mamdani's support has surged from 1% to 32%, while Cuomo finishes near where he began," said Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling.
"In the ranked-choice simulation, Mamdani gains 18 points compared to Cuomo's 12, putting him ahead in the final round for the first time in an Emerson poll."
