A recent audit from State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli disputes the MTA's claims of a 41% increase in Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) service following the Grand Central Madison station's opening. The audit indicates the actual service increase is approximately 23%, as many of the additional trains operated short shuttle routes. Consequently, commuters experienced longer delays and extended travel times. The MTA argued the figures were misrepresented, claiming ridership had grown by 10% with added services, despite the audit pointing out poor customer feedback handling by the LIRR.
Some passengers may have been required to change their travel times, increasing wait times and adding more steps to their trips where direct service was eliminated.
Ridership has grown 10 percent over the last year, and riders ... are enjoying more trains and reverse- commuting options that didn't exist before.
