"The NYPD Bomb Squad has conducted a preliminary analysis of a device that was ignited and deployed at a protest yesterday and has determined that it is not a hoax device or a smoke bomb. It is, in fact, an improvised explosive device that could have caused serious injury or death."
"I mean, the bomb landed about the distance you are to me, about three feet in front of me, and I saw the fuse, it was smoking, and I thought my life was over right then and there. And by God's grace, I immediately acknowledged the Lord's hand protecting me."
A far-right protest led by pardoned January 6 protester Jake Lang targeting New York's Muslim community escalated into violence when two men, Emir Balat and Ibrahim Kayumi, threw improvised explosive devices into a crowd of counter-protesters. The NYPD Bomb Squad confirmed the devices were real explosives capable of causing serious injury or death, not hoax devices or smoke bombs. One bomb landed approximately three feet from Lang himself. The NYPD, working with the U.S. Attorney's Office and FBI through the Joint Terrorism Task Force, quickly apprehended the suspects. Charges against Balat and Kayumi remain pending as the investigation continues.
