Edwin Raymond, a former NYPD lieutenant, will replace Anthony Miranda as Sheriff of the City of New York. Raymond previously filed a discrimination lawsuit alleging NYPD superiors enforced arrest quotas targeting Black and Latino men with incentives such as overtime. After retiring, he pursued reform-minded policing, ran unsuccessfully for City Council in 2021, and published the 2023 book “An Inconvenient Cop: My Fight to Change Policing in America.” Miranda, a holdover from Eric Adams’ administration, faced widespread criticism over unlicensed marijuana shop handling, improperly seized evidence, workplace abuse lawsuits, and corruption.
