A New York State Supreme Court judge has issued a temporary restraining order against Mayor Eric Adamsâ administration, prohibiting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from establishing an office on Rikers Island. The order, requested by the City Council, follows accusations against the mayor of engaging in a corrupt deal with the Trump administration. The judge's decision intends to maintain the status quo until a hearing is held, reflecting concerns over public safety and the implications of federal enforcement on inmates and the community.
City Hall and all other New York City government officials, officers, personnel and agencies are prohibited from taking any steps towards negotiating, signing or implementing any memoranda of understanding with the federal government.
Allowing ICE to operate an office on Rikers Island and carry out Trump's destabilizing and extremist mass deportation agenda would make everyone in our city less safe.
