Judge temporarily blocks Adams from allowing ICE on Rikers Island
Briefly

A New York judge has temporarily blocked a plan allowing federal immigration agents to operate in Rikers Island jail. Judge Mary Rosado's order halts negotiations and agreements with the federal government before a crucial April 25 hearing. The ruling follows a lawsuit from the NYC Council against Mayor Eric Adams, accusing him of making a corrupt bargain with the prior administration. While Adams claims the presence of ICE will aid investigations, the city previously limited immigration enforcement in 2014 through sanctuary laws.
We are prepared to fight back against what appears to be a corrupt quid pro quo that harms our communities and undermines our values.
The presence of ICE will only complicate our efforts to provide safety and rehabilitation within Rikers, not enhance them.
