The reopening of I-80 in Wharton, New Jersey, has been postponed due to extended repairs on sinkholes which emerged under the roadway. Originally set to reopen on May 4, the westbound lanes are now expected to open by June 25, attributed to prolonged sonic drilling work. The eastbound lanes remain on track for a mid-May reopening. While repairs continue, the New Jersey Department of Transportation urges drivers to utilize detour information from their traffic website. Additionally, NJ Transit is providing discounts for affected commuters during the closure.
I-80 will not fully reopen at the end of May because sinkhole repairs are taking longer than expected, the New Jersey Department of Transportation says.
New Jersey DOT said Friday lanes in both directions on I-80 are on track to reopen on June 25.
The state is urging drivers to check its traffic information website for detours and alternate routes while the repairs continue.
NJ Transit is offering a discount for commuters impacted by the I-80 shutdown for the duration of the repair work.
