George Santos announced plans to leave New York City, saying he and his family will depart the city he has called home. Santos blamed mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani for making the city more dangerous and said electing Mamdani would be a risk to growing his family. Santos was sentenced to seven years for wire fraud and identity theft and received presidential clemency after months in jail. Mamdani previously supported prison abolition and defunding the police but has said he is not running to defund the police and affirms police' role in public safety. Social media users criticized Santos for complaining about crime after obtaining clemency.
