Exclusive | Council Speaker Adrienne Adams is Queens preacher's Golden Goose
Briefly

Adrienne Adams has directed over $3 million in taxpayer funding to the Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral and its affiliates, significantly increasing financial support since her tenure began in the City Council. Previously, these organizations received minimal funds, but under her influence, the amounts surged to nearly $1.2 million in 2025 alone. This trend raised alarms among watchdogs who criticize the practice as favoring connections over merit, suggesting a need for reform in how taxpayer dollars are allocated.
During her time as speaker, the Council has funneled more than $3 million in taxpayer dough to organizations affiliated with the Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral.
By contrast, in the 2018 budget, the last year before Adams became councilwoman, the church and its affiliates took in just $86,423.
Watchdogs noted cash out of the Council pots gets ladled out based on connections, not merit, highlighting the issues with political patronage.
Big winners included the Allen Senior Citizen Network, awarded $907,800 for services and another $435,000 for new vehicles from the Council.
