Elon Musk endorsed former governor Andrew Cuomo one day before the New York City mayoral election and urged voters to choose Cuomo. Musk characterized a vote for GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa as effectively a vote for Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani. Cuomo is running an independent campaign against Mamdani, who is the Democratic nominee. Several wealthy figures, including Mike Bloomberg, Airbnb cofounder Joe Gebbia and hedge fund manager Bill Ackman, have opposed Mamdani and spent significant sums in the race. Former President Donald Trump also expressed a preference for Cuomo over Mamdani.
