Early voting turnout for the Democratic primary election in New York City has doubled compared to four years ago, indicating a possible shift in the electorate. Analyzing data from the Board of Elections shows over 131,000 people voted early, led by younger and white voters from Brooklyn. Experts highlight the uncertainty around whether this trend signifies new voters or earlier participation from existing ones. Notably, Mamdani leads among younger voters, raising hopes for transformative electoral outcomes if turnout remains consistent.
"If they are successful, it could be transformative," Tamman added.
"It absolutely could be a ceiling for Mamdani," said Laura Tamman, a political scientist at Pace University.
