District Attorney holds SNAP benefits fraud prevention workshop
Briefly

The seminar, organized by Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez with NYC Human Resources Administration and NYPD, focuses on preventing theft and fraud related to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits. With rising EBT Card fraud incidents, the workshop will offer information on scams and protective measures for personal accounts. It follows significant fraud cases, including a recent $66 million food stamp fraud scheme involving USDA employees, highlighting the critical need for community awareness and prevention efforts in Brighton Beach.
As theft of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program funds has grown in Brooklyn, District Attorney Gonzalez and other presenters will provide attendees with information on EBT Card fraud, current scams and ways to protect one's personal account.
Just last month, on May 29, a longtime USDA employee who abused her access to federal systems and five others were charged in federal court in Manhattan in connection with an alleged multimillion-dollar food stamp fraud and bribery scheme.
