The brothel, characterized by cramped and unsanitary conditions, had forced students to walk past sex workers regularly. Monserrate, who had organized multiple rallies, voiced gratitude for the police's involvement in finally addressing the long-standing problem.
"The shutting down of the 'bodega brothel' was long overdue, but it finally got done," Monserrate expressed, highlighting the community's relief with the NYPD's actions to remove the establishment.
"This place is clearly unsightly and unsanitary, and, quite frankly, disgusting," Monserrate stated after touring the brothel, emphasizing its negative impact on the community.
