Bernard Kerik, former New York City Police Commissioner famed for his leadership during the 9/11 attacks, passed away Thursday at age 69. Kerik's tenure at the NYPD spanned from 2000 to 2001, where he played a pivotal role in the city's recovery post-9/11. After his service in New York, he later led a provisional police force in Iraq under President Bush. His contributions left a lasting impact on the city, and his passing was met with condolences from officials, expressing sorrow for the loss of a dedicated public servant.
For nearly two decades, Kerik served and protected New Yorkers in the NYPD, including helping rebuild the city in the aftermath of 9/11.
It was just this afternoon that I stopped by the hospital to see Bernie Kerik, my friend of nearly 30 years, before his passing.
