Your blood runs cold': the anguish parents feel after a daycare worker commits a sexual offence against a child
Briefly

Anna's experience dropping her child at daycare is deeply affected by a previous traumatic incident involving a convicted educator. Each tearful farewell raises her anxiety about her child's safety and whether they are signaling discomfort. The case against Quoc Phu Tong reveals serious allegations of child abuse witnessed by others at the daycare. Anna feels guilt over past experiences and is haunted by the memory of leaving her child in discomfort, demonstrating the long-lasting impact such incidents can have on parents' perceptions of childcare.
According to court documents, in September last year, a boy woke up distressed from his nap and walked to the outside area of the centre. Tong approached the boy and started tickling his groin on top of his clothing with his fingers and rubbing the child's bottom with both hands.
Every single time I leave my child somewhere now and they cry for me because we're separating, I'm questioning, are they telling me that they're uncomfortable, that something's going on?” says Anna, who asked that her surname not be used.
Worse still, Anna replays moments when she left her child crying at the old centre where the man worked and wonders. I feel that I absolutely failed as a parent, she says.
