There's Something Horrifying in Your Toothpaste
Briefly

A recent study led by Tamara Rubin of Lead Safe Mama found that 90% of toothpaste brands, including well-known names like Crest and Colgate, contain harmful levels of toxic metals. Notably, numerous children’s toothpastes such as Colgate Watermelon Burst also tested positive. Alongside lead, 65% of brands contained arsenic, 47% contained mercury, and 35% contained cadmium. Although none exceeded the FDA's lead limit of 10,000 ppb, any lead exposure is dangerous, especially for children. Washington’s stricter 1,000 ppb limit revealed some brands exceeded this, raising alarms for consumer safety.
"It's unconscionable - especially in 2025. What's really interesting to me is that no one thought this was a concern."
"The FDA limit for lead in fluoride-free toothpastes is 10,000 parts per billion (ppb). However, no amount of lead exposure is considered safe, especially in children."
