The Little Apple: Mamdani opens applications for NYC's first free childcare program for city workers
"The dedicated public servants who keep this city running deserve high-quality, free childcare that meets the needs of their busy schedules that is exactly what The Little Apple will do, Mamdani said."
"With the launch of the application period and selection of the vendor to operate The Little Apple, we are taking monumental steps forward and transforming what child care looks like in a modern workforce, Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) Commissioner Yume Kitasei said."
"We hope this center will serve as a model for city government at its best, where a strong start for New York's Cutest is a guarantee and not a luxury."
The Little Apple is a new childcare pilot program in Manhattan for municipal workers, offering free, full-day care for children aged 6 weeks to 3 years. Located in the David N. Dinkins Municipal Building, it will serve around 40 children and operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The program is part of a $10 million renovation to create a 4,000-square-foot facility, with completion expected this fall. Imagine Early Learning Centers will manage the program, aiming to set a standard for childcare in the workforce.
