Queens father indicted for murdering 2-year-old son after beating him in Long Island City shelter: DA - QNS
"A parent's most sacred responsibility is ensuring the safety of their children. As alleged, this defendant chose to abandon that solemn duty when he inflicted life-threatening injuries on his 2-year-old son, Maliek, and then let him suffer. It was only after other people, who observed the toddler's injuries, intervened that the child received medical attention."
"The child suffered a blown right pupil, fractured pelvis, laceration to the liver, damage to the brain stem, multiple brain bleeds and swelling to the brain, among other injuries. He succumbed to those injuries and was pronounced dead by hospital staff on Feb. 4."
Dayvon Morrison, 30, was indicted on two counts of second-degree murder and child endangerment after fatally injuring his 2-year-old son Maliek at a family shelter in Long Island City. On January 30-31, Morrison inflicted severe injuries on the child while serving as sole caretaker in a drunken state. Days later, Morrison transported his injured son to East Harlem, placing him in a stroller's undercarriage for two hours. Witnesses observed the child's deteriorating condition and contacted police. The boy was hospitalized with catastrophic injuries including fractured pelvis, liver laceration, brain stem damage, multiple brain bleeds, and cerebral swelling. He died on February 4 at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
